Aston Villa v Man Utd English Premier League Highlights Video

Barclays Premier League: Aston Villa vs Manchester United Full Highlights Video, Match Report
Manchester United remain eight points off the top of the Premier League after failing to break down Aston Villa in a lively encounter at Villa Park.

Played at Venue: Villa Park Date: Saturday, 22 November

Aston Villa v Man Utd Match Report
Manchester United's winning run at Aston Villa came to end in a bruising battle at Villa Park.

United had previously won their last 11 games at Villa but they had few opportunities to improve upon that record.

Villa boss, Martin O'Neill, had every reason to be pleased as it is the first point he has won in five games against United since taking over at Villa Park.

After conceding no less than 18 goals in the previous two seasons against United, Villa played with great resolution to demonstrate why they are enjoying such a good season and they were well worth their precious home point.

United, who had lost only once in their previous four games, had their big guns Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney on parade but on this occasion they failed to blast away the opposition.

Following their impressive confidence-boosting win at Arsenal a week ago Villa were very determined not to suffer another failure at the hands of Manchester United.

Gareth Barry, boosted by his England performance in Germany, had another outstanding game. Operating deeper than usual he was a major inspiration in this game.

Villa attacked in depth from the off but ominously ran up against a solid United rearguard which was in no mood to give anything away.

Playing with only Gabby Agbonlahor up front Villa had to rely on raids from James Milner and Ashley Young. They produced some attractive play but it was a long-range effort from stand-in full back, Nigel Reo-Coker, which forced Edwin van der Sar to make his first save of the game.

United's best reply was a sizzling long-range effort from Ronaldo. It was goalbound but Brad Friedel, making a record 166th consecutive Premier League appearance, pushed the effort around the post.

A crucial moment of the goalless first half occurred in the 38th minute when Ashley Young made a brilliant tackle on Ji-Sung Park just as the South Korean was about to shoot from close range.

The young England player provided an early second-half highlight when a casual left-footed long-range shot looped towards to the top-right hand corner of the net.

Fortunately, van der Sar had spotted the danger to fingertip the accurate shot away for a corner.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who took up his usual position pitch-side, had mixed feelings about this match but was hardly surprised by the outcome as he has praised Villa's recent emergence as one of the top six clubs in the country.

Meanwhile, O'Neill was almost tearing out his hair in the 58th minute when Nemanja Vidic became entangled with Agbonlahor in what looked to be a penalty only for the referee to wave away the protests.

Rooney then blasted aimlessly over the bar when he should really have scored. It was an awful finish and it was United's last chance to snatch victory.

'Enthusiastic' Villa delight O'Neill

Liverpool v Fulham English Premier League Highlights Video

Barclays Premier League: Liverpool vs Fulham, Full Highlights Video, Match Report
Liverpool endured a frustrating afternoon as they were held to a goalless draw by Fulham at Anfield.

Played at Venue: Anfield Date: Saturday, 22

Liverpool vs Fulham Match Report
Liverpool were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at Anfield as a well-organised Fulham team frustrated the home side that left the pitch to a chorus of boos at the final whistle.

Despite having nearly every goalscoring opportunity Rafa Benitez's men couldn't find the finishing touch in a game that should have taken them two points clear at the top of the table.

It was the home side that should have opened the scoring inside the first five minutes when a clever ball from the outside of Fabio Aurelio's boot found Dirk Kuyt behind the Fulham back line but, after bringing the ball down, the Dutch winger lacked the composure to hit the target and dragged his shot wide.

With no Steven Gerrard in the side and Lucas Leiva partnering Javier Mascherano in the middle of the park, Liverpool lacked any creativity and it was the Fulham duo of Danny Murphy and Jimmy Bullard who looked to have the more quality around the centre circle.

A scrappy first 20 minutes suited Fulham and they should have done better from a trio of volleyed passes starting with Murphy to Simon Davies then on to Jimmy Bullard whose overhead ball dropped over the shoulder of Andy Johnson.

The striker scuffed his shot straight at Pepe Reina in the Reds goal, much to the pleasure of the home crowd.

Kop favourite Fernando Torres looked to have found his match fitness again and a jinking run at two Fulham defenders on 23 minutes looked to have created a good shooting chance on the edge of the box but a last-gasp tackle by John Paintsil prevented the Spaniard from pulling the trigger.

Liverpool had the Cottagers pinned back in their own half for most of the game but, despite creating a hatful of chances, they never looked like breaking the deadlock.

The best chance of the game fell to Robbie Keane just before the half-hour mark when a low driven ball into the box flicked off an unsuspecting Leiva and fell into the path of the former Spurs striker who was one-on-one with Mark Schwarzer.

Despite claims for offside, Keane still took a shot but his panic-looking effort was blasted straight at the keeper who spread himself well and ended up saving the ball with his face.

Fulham managed to get a rare scoring chance five minutes later when a powerful run from Bobby Zamora took him past three players before cutting the ball back to Bullard who unleashed a 20-yard effort but Reina was alert enough to push the ball over his bar.

With a very organised back-line Roy Hodgson's men stood strong to whatever Liverpool threw at them and Schwarzer was forced to save a low drive from Torres just before the break.

After the restart it was Liverpool again who created the first chance when a curling right-footed effort from Torres sailed just over the top corner.

With no-one else in the team seeming able to have a strike on goal it was the Spanish striker who tested Schwarzer again on 51 minutes after his pace out stripped both Paintsil and Murphy, but his effort was blasted straight at the shot-stopper who palmed away the danger.

Having been calling for Xabi Alonso to be brought on since midway through the first half, Benitez seemed to be giving the fans what they wanted but the home crowd's cheers were soon replaced with groans of despair when he took off Mascherano instead of the expected Leiva.

With 20 minutes to go Liverpool started throwing everything they had at the wall of white in front of them and Kuyt was the next to hold his head in his hands.

A driven shot from Albert Riera against the legs of Paintsil flew to Kuyt whose first-time effort was heading for the top corner before Schwarzer appeared to pluck the ball out of the air.

With speculative efforts from Keane, Leiva and Daniel Agger in the closing stages Liverpool should have had the game well and truly wrapped up but Fulham stood strong and thoroughly deserved a point.

'Bad day' for Benitez at Anfield

Stalemate is like a win - Schwarzer

Final, 22nd Nov 2008, KO 08:55, Ground: Suncorp Stadium
On Saturday night New Zealand and Australia face off to become the World Cup holders and what a game it should be,the Kiwis normally get better as any tournament continues while the Kangaroos are always at their unbeatable best.

New Zealand coach Stephen Kearney has named an unchanged team for Saturday's World Cup final against Australia.

Wigan scrum-half Thomas Leuluai will keep the hooking role after impressing on his switch for the semi-final and there is another starting role for South Sydney second rower Bronson Harrison, one of the surprise successes of the tournament.

"The Kangaroos have some wonderful players and they've played some fantastic football during the tournament so far," said Kearney.

"While we know we'll need to be a lot better against Australia, we're excited with the opportunity we have. We don't want to have any regrets on Saturday night."

Skipper Nathan Cayless and second rower Sika Manu both keep their places after avoiding disciplinary action.

Cayless has been cautioned for a high tackle on Warrington forward Adrian Morley during the Kiwis' 32-22 semi-final win over England last Saturday while Manu received a similar warning for a foul on Gareth Ellis.

Players are allowed one caution in the tournament, leaving both men free to line up against the Kangaroos at the Suncorp Stadium.

The Kiwis will be making their third World Cup final appearance but have never lifted the trophy.

Two games, two thrashings and both at the hands of one man - Yuvraj Singh. Suddenly, things are not looking so rosy for England. They have their backs against the wall and need to win four of the remaining five games against a strong Indian side to win the series.

Match scheduled to begin at 09:00 local time (03:30 GMT)

Spinner Graeme Swann has been added to the England squad for the third one-day international in Kanpur on Thursday.

Pitch and conditions
The pitch curator at Green Park Stadium has predicted a batting paradise. "The bounce would be even, ball would come nicely onto the bat and the strokemakers would make merry," said Shiv Kumar. "So far, the 294 India scored against Pakistan remains the highest at Green Park. I don't rule out a 300-plus score on Thursday."

Thats good news for the batsmen on both sides, after the raging turner prepared when India played South Africa in a Test earlier this year. There's a likely chance that smog will obstruct visibility throughout the day, because Kanpur is a very polluted town.

England have reason to cheer about as they head into the second ODI at Indore. Yuvraj Singh, who pounded England with a match-winning century in the first one-day international, could miss Monday's second match due to a back injury while Ryan Sidebottom will be available after recovering from his injury.

Match scheduled to begin at 09:00 local time (03:30 GMT)

Teams India (From): Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni(w/c), Rohit Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Rudra Pratap Singh, Munaf Patel, Virat Kohli, Pragyan Ojha, Ishant Sharma, Murali Vijay

Team England (From): Ian Bell, Matthew Prior(w), Owais Shah, Kevin Pietersen(c), Andrew Flintoff, Paul Collingwood, Samit Patel, Ravinder Bopara, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, Stephen Harmison, James Anderson, Luke Wright, Tim Ambrose, Alastair Cook, Ryan Sidebottom, Andrew Strauss, Monty Panesar

Pitch and conditions
Dhoni and Pietersen both wanted to bowl first in Rajkot and the Indian captain said losing the toss was a blessing. However, he indicated that batting first would be the way to go in Indore. "The wicket will not be like the one at Rajkot," Dhoni said. "There will be wear and tear as the match progresses. It's dry and it will become slow and it will be difficult to score." Collingwood agreed, saying that the pitch was flat, had some cracks and the boundaries were small. The curator Samundar Singh Chauhan, however, was of the opinion that the toss wouldn't be that significant. "You can see a score in excess of 300 being scored and maybe even being chased. The wicket is hard and will last 100 overs."

Arsenal v Aston Villa English Premier League Highlights Video

Barclays Premier League: Arsenal vs Aston Villa, Highlights Video, Match Report

Played at Venue: Emirates Stadium; Date: Saturday, 15 November
Aston Villa struck twice in the last 20 minutes to seal a deserved win and dent Arsenal's Premier League title hopes.

Arsenal vs Aston Villa Match Report
Aston Villa came away from the Emirates Stadium deserved 2-0 winners as they beat a very poor Arsenal side, whose title hopes lie in tatters after their fourth defeat of the season.

Martin O'Neill's team kept it solid at the back, working as a team to deny the Gunners time and space but had a deadly counter-attack spear-headed by the lightning-heeled Gabriel Agbonlahor.

The England striker scored the second, but put Gael Clichy under severe pressure to force the Frenchman to head into his own goal for the first.

A notice of intent was made early on by Villa. Manuel Almunia's hands were stinging after just 30 seconds of the game when Ashley Young unleashed a venomous 30-yard drive directly at the fit-again Arsenal keeper.

Aston Villa were presented with a golden opportunity to take the lead on 19 minutes after Theo Walcott had upended Ashley Young following a poor clearance by Clichy.

Ashley Young stepped up to take the penalty himself, but the Spanish keeper guessed right and turned the ball around his right post for a corner.

Ashley Young tried to make amends on the half-hour with a 35-yard snap-shot that had Almunia scampering across his goal but the ball flew just wide of the left post.

Arsenal were pushing their luck and were again in debt to their keeper in the 35th minute when he saved a Gareth Barry shot from the edge of the area. Villa were cutting through Arsenal's defence too easily and too often.

Arsenal tried to inject some urgency into their game after the interval, but to little avail. Villa, for their part started to defend more deeply, relying on the speed of Agbonlahor on the counter-attack.

Arsene Wenger introduced Emmanuel Adebayor in place of Abou Diaby in the 61st minute, switching to a two-pronged attack. He then introduced midweek goal hero Carlos Vela ten minutes later.

However, it was Villa who took the lead in the 70th minute, somewhat controversially.

With Bacary Sagna down injured, Ashley Young took advantage with a burst down the right side and his cross into the box was headed into his own net by Clichy, under pressure from Agbonlahor.

A minute later Adebayor forced the first real save of the match from Brad Friedel, who managed to parry the Togolese striker's header.

Arsenal's afternoon deteriorated further and the controversy magnified as Villa doubled their lead in the 80th minute.

While the Gunners appealed for a free-kick for a foul on Vela just outside the Villa area, Martin Laursen punted a long ball up field for Agbonlahor to chase.

He showed good strength again William Gallas before firing a low shot that Almunia could only help into the net.

Friedel kept his side's winning margin intact with a fine close-range save from Cesc Fabregas but the four minutes of stoppage time may have well been 40 as Arsenal never looked liked scoring.

A combination of resolute defending and passionless play from the home side saw to that. For O'Neill it was job done and the three points saw Villa draw level on points with the Gunners, but just behind them on goal difference.

O'Neill overjoyed at Villa victory

Blackburn v Sunderland English Premier League Highlights Video

Barclays Premier League: Blackburn Rovers vs Sunderland, Highlights Video, Match Report

Played at Venue: Ewood Park; Date: Saturday, 15 November 2008
Sunderland produced a vastly improved second-half performance as they came from behind to avenge their midweek Carling Cup defeat by Blackburn.

Blackburn v Sunderland Match Report
Sunderland reversed Wednesday night's Carling Cup defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers with a 2-1 win at Ewood Park.

After dominating the opening 45 minutes, Paul Ince's side took a deserved lead when Chris Samba headed home Morten Gamst Pedersen's corner on the stroke of half-time.

But Sunderland came roaring back after the break, with Kenwyne Jones netting his second goal in four days after a mistake by Paul Robinson, before Djibril
Cisse lifted the ball over the England keeper 20 minutes from time.

That's now seven league games without a win for Rovers and a much-needed three points for an under-fire Roy Keane.

Blackburn made by far the better start and could have taken the lead with less than two minutes on the clock. Andre Ooijer's ball into the box was headed down by Keith Andrews into the path of Stephen Warnock, who drilled a left-foot shot just past the post.

Rovers continued to dominate the early exchanges, aided by a string of set-pieces.

On seven minutes, a corner routine off the training ground, saw Zurab Khizanishvili connect with Pedersen's corner, but a combination of keeper Marton Fulop and Steed Malbranque scrambled the ball behind.

From the resulting delivery, Roque Santa Cruz leapt brilliantly, but his powerful header came crashing back off the bar.

Pedersen then stung the gloves of Fulop with a fierce free-kick minutes later.

At the other end, Dean Whitehead's long clearance found Jones, whose snap-shot was comfortable for Robinson, whilst Cisse lifted the ball well wide from a similar angle, as he attempted to chip the England international.

However, that was as good as it got for the visitors in the first half, as Andrews' free-kick forced a fine save from Fulop, before Rovers eventually broke
the deadlock from another set-piece.

In the second and final minute of time added on, Pedersen fired over a corner from the left and the towering Samba sent a looping header over Fulop and beyond the reach of the defender on the line.

A goal on the stroke of half-time can be demoralising to some teams, but Sunderland made a superb start to the second-half.

Jones rattled the crossbar from Malbranque's centre just two minutes in and the same duo combined as the visitors equalised just two minutes later. From Malbranque's corner, Robinson's attempted punch was poor and Jones hooked the ball into the top corner from close range.

Kieran Richardson's free-kick forced Robinson to tip over, before Sunderland scored again.

Malbranque was again the provider, heading through to Cisse, who spun past Khizanishvili before cleverly chipping the ball over the onrushing Robinson.

Santa Cruz hit the side-netting and Aaron Mokoena's thunderous strike was deflected wide as Rovers threw everyone forward in the closing stages, but the visitors held out to end a run of four straight defeats.

Bolton v Liverpool English Premier League Highlights Video

Barclays Premier League: Bolton vs Liverpool Wanderers, Highlights Video, Match Report

Played at Venue: Reebok Stadium; Date: Saturday, 15 Nov 2008
Liverpool's Premier League title challenge gathered further momentum with an impressive victory at Bolton.

Bolton vs Liverpool Match Report
Before the game Bolton manager Gary Megson spoke in high regard about Liverpool's title credentials and the former West Brom boss had his point endorsed at the Reebok Stadium by goals in either half from Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool deserved the win, although Bolton did give them the odd scare in the second half when they upped the ante.

Dutchman Kuyt opened the scoring on 28 minutes, with his head, after he had connected to Fabio Aurelio's pin-point left-wing delivery.

That could have been the striker's second because he had hit the bar from 14 yards out just seven minutes earlier.

But one man who should definitely have made it two was Robbie Keane, who failed to connect with the ball from just one yard out soon after the goal.

Despite winning their last two games against Manchester City and Hull City, Wanderers have been struggling to score goals this season.

They had only scored 11 goals in 12 matches before this one, and six of those came in two wins over Stoke and West Ham.

Defender Gary Cahill then had a header ruled out on the stroke of half-time because captain Kevin Nolan was impeding Jose Reina.

Wanderers came out for the second half with much more purpose, as substitute Ricardo Gardner, Nolan and Kevin Davies all went close.

Davies actually played Gardner, on for Fabrice Muamba, through, but the Jamaican winger slipped after pushing the ball slightly too wide in his attempts to round Reina.

Reds defender Daniel Agger then collided with the post, and appeared to lose a tooth.

Gerrard then should have doubled the visitors lead when he made a bad contact with sub Fernando Torres' cross after sliding in at the far post.

But with 17 minutes left on the clock the skipper, and England midfielder, did make the game safe when he glanced home, with his head, the Spaniard's exquisite ball with the outside of his right boot.

Concern for Benitez despite win

The Football League, also known as the Coca-Cola Football League for sponsorship reasons, is a league competition featuring professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888, it is the oldest such competition in world football. It was the top level football league in England from its foundation in the 19th century until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split away to form the FA Premier League.

Since 1995 it has had 72 clubs evenly divided into three divisions, which are currently known as The Championship, League One, and League Two. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the League and is further extended to allow the top Championship clubs to exchange places with the lowest placed clubs in the Premier League, and the bottom clubs of League Two to switch with the top clubs of the Football Conference, thus integrating the League into the English football league system. Although primarily a competition for English clubs, two clubs from Wales also take part (three prior to the relegation of Wrexham in 2008).

Matthew Hayden went down fighting with a typically belligerent 77, and Cameron White made a valiant 26 not out.

But India's spinners held sway, making maximum use of the worn wicket.

It was the first time Australia had lost a Test series by more than one match since they were trounced by West Indies in 1988-89.

Australia tour of India 4th Test: Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India Vs Australia at Vidarbha C.A. Ground, Nagpur, Day 4(four) Highlights video Nov 6-10, 2008
Australia need a further 369 runs to win the final Test against India after closing the penultimate day on 13-0.

Virender Sehwag struck a fluent 92 as India raced to 116-0 before they lost three quick wickets, including Sourav Ganguly first ball in his final Test.

But Australia chose to use occasional bowlers in a bid to speed-up their slow over-rate, and Mahendra Dhoni hit 55 in a vital 108 stand with Harbhajan Singh.
Harbhajan fired his sixth Test fifty as India, who lead 1-0, made 295 all out.

Ganguly can at least console himself with the thought that he, like Sir Don Bradman, scored a duck in his final Test, and after 188 innings his final average was an impressive 42.

Hull City v Bolton English Premier League Highlights Video

Barclays Premier League: Hull City vs Bolton Wanderers, Highlights Video, Match Report
Played at Venue: KC Stadium Date: Saturday, 8 November
Matthew Taylor struck the only goal as Bolton picked up their second win in six days but condemned Hull to their third straight Premier League defeat.

Hull City v Bolton Match Report
Bolton Wanderers took all three points at the KC stadium as Hull City and Geovanni were left frustrated after several agonising second-half chances.

Matt Taylor got the only goal on 50 minutes and then a sublime second-half goalkeeping performance from Jussi Jaaskelainen saw Gary Megson's side claim victory.

Hull nearly took the lead in style in the first half as Geovanni turned provider with a cross from the left towards Marlon King, who cleverly rose to flick the ball with the back of his heel onto the crossbar.

Daniel Cousin came close on the half-hour mark as George Boateng floated in a cross from the left onto the head of the striker, but he could only glance his header just wide from eight yards.

The visitors were gifted a chance towards the end of the half as a mix-up between Paul McShane and Boaz Myhill allowed Ricardo Gardner to nip in on the byline and play the ball across an open goal but no Bolton players were there to capitalise.

Bolton took the lead on 50 minutes as Hull failed to clear a Gavin McCann corner, allowing the ball to fall to Taylor inside the area, who struck a first-time left-footed shot passed the outstretched Myhill and into the back of net.

Midway through the half Hull were awarded a free-kick just outside the box after Fabrice Muamba was penalised for a foul on Dean Marney. Geovanni curled the ball with precision towards the top corner, but Jaaskelainen pulled off a great save to deny the Tigers.

Jaaskelainen was then on hand to make a tremendous double save as yet again he denied Geovanni.

The Finalnd international showed great reactions to stop an arrowed header from the Brazilian and then a Michael Tuner effort from the rebound.

Moments later Geovanni picked the ball up, ran and fired in a low shot but again Jaaskelanien was there to pull off a good save.

Unbelievably Jasskelainen then made another outstanding double save as first he palmed away a rasping deflected effort from King and then managed to dive to his right to flick the ball off Geovanni's toe to deny what looked a certain goal.

Ian Ashbee came close to equalising towards the end of the game, but his rifled shot from 20 yards flew just over the bar.

Megson praises 'top-class goalkeeping'

Sunderland v Portsmouth English Premier League Highlights Video

Barclays Premier League: Sunderland vs Portsmouth, Highlights Video, Match Report
Played at Venue: Stadium of Light Date: Saturday, 8 November
Jermain Defoe crashed in an injury-time penalty to secure a first victory for new Portsmouth manager Tony Adams.

Sunderland vs Portsmouth Match Report
Hosts Sunderland literally paid the penalty as they went down 2-1 to Portsmouth at the Stadium of Light.

A late Jermain Defoe spot-kick gave Pompey the spoils in a game which the Wearsiders should have had wrapped up long before then.

It was a cruel blow for the Black Cats who had looked set to banish the blues from the previous week's 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Chelsea. In fact the hosts started like a house on fire and found themselves in front after just three minutes.

A Pompey attack broke down on the edge of the Sunderland 18-yard area and Dean Whitehead was quick to find Andy Reid.

The Republic of Ireland star hit a wonderfully weighted pass for Djibril Cisse and the Frenchman got goal-side of Sol Campbell before sliding the ball through the legs of goalkeeper David James and into the net.

It was exactly the start the home side wanted and they looked like the cats that had got the cream as they stepped up the tempo.

Roy Keane's men had threatened to run away with the clash in the first half as they bossed the early exchanges with some slick passing football.

They could easily have added to their tally in the opening 45 minutes had it not been for some good goalkeeping from James and the thickness of the goalposts.

Twice James did well to deny Cisse and Kieran Richardson was unlucky as his long-range effort struck the right-hand upright on 15 minutes.

The midfielder's 25-yard strike had James beaten all ends up, but Richardson and his team-mates could only look on as the ball ricocheted off the woodwork and out for a goal-kick.

These missed chances would prove costly as Pompey emerged with far more purpose after the break.

Much of the first half had passed Portsmouth by, but in the opening minutes of the second period the visitors stated their intention to make a game of it.

A wonder strike from Nadir Belhadj some 30 yards from goal levelled the scores on 50 minutes and for the first time in the match the away side began to push forward with purpose.

Sunderland though forced their way back into things and put plenty of pressure on their opponents. However, the breakthrough they all wanted eluded them.

Cisse did have the ball in the net on 63 minutes but the header was ruled out as the striker was correctly flagged offside.

The Black Cats continued to press while Pompey were restricted to infrequent breaks.

However, it was one such counter-attack from which they delivered the killer blow.

Glen Johnson was brought down just inside the area by El Hadji Diouf and referee Steve Bennett had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

Up stepped Defoe to send Marton Fulop the wrong way and make his side's long trek back to the south a very happy one by securing all three points and the first win under Tony Adams.

Sunderland, on the other hand, were left to rue their missed opportunities and to wonder just where it had all gone wrong.

West Ham v Everton English Premier League Highlights Video

Barclays Premier League: West Ham vs Everton, Highlights Video, Match Report
Played at Venue: Upton Park Date: Saturday 8 November
Everton scored three goals in four astonishing minutes to break West Ham's hearts with an incredible fightback in the final 10 minutes at Upton Park.

West Ham vs Everton Match Report
Ecstatic Everton put on a late, late show to sink shell-shocked West Ham with three goals inside eight final, frenetic minutes.

Gianfranco Zola's side had looked all set for victory against the goal-shy Merseysiders after substitute Jack Collison had given the Hammers a deserved lead with his first senior goal for the club.

But somehow, West Ham saw three points turn to one and then none, as Joleon Lescott levelled before Louis Saha struck twice to keep Everton in seventh spot and leave the home side precariously in 13th place, just two points clear of the drop zone.

Last Saturday, Zola had arrested a forlorn four-match losing streak at Middlesbrough and, after claiming their first draw of the campaign down by the Riverside , he looked all set to bag a much-needed victory as this match entered its final stages.

Up until then, there only looked to be one winner and that was the Hammers, who had earlier made two changes with fit-again Scott Parker and Lee Bowyer coming in for substitutes Hayden Mullins and Collison.

Certainly, Parker wasted no time in marking his return to the side, when he unleashed a low, 18-yarder that skidded across the sodden Upton Park turf, before being tipped away at full stretch by Tim Howard.

And on the quarter-hour mark, Collison found himself back in the fold, too, when he stepped from the bench to replace Matthew Upson, who was worryingly stretchered away after landing awkwardly in an aerial challenge with Victor Anichebe.

Midway through the half, Freddie Sears superbly released Craig Bellamy but his shot was charged down and, shortly afterwards, the Welshman had another shot headed clear by Phil Jagielka, before volleying a third effort high into the damp East End air.

On the half-hour mark, the buzzing Bellamy brilliantly turned Joseph Yobo before cutting back to Sears, who sent a rising, ten-yarder crashing back off the crossbar and, as the half drew to a close, the teenager then drilled a low, angled shot behind.

With last weekend's match-winner Marouane Fellaini suspended, Everton had also kicked-off minus the injured Yakubu and Steven Pienaar following their win over Fulham - a situation that had forced David Moyes to bring in Saha, Anichebe and Jack Rodwell.

And apart from a handful of speculative first-half efforts from Saha, Tim Cahill, Mikel Arteta and a rising Leon Osman shot, the muted Merseysiders had shown little attacking appetite.

Having been on the back foot for those opening 45 minutes, it was not too difficult for Everton to look livelier after the break and, with the hour-mark approaching, young Rodwell sent his downward header bouncing just inches wide.

On 63 minutes, however, the Hammers finally broke the deadlock, when Parker back-heeled into the path of Collison and the young Welsh international calmly curled a 12-yarder beyond Howard's outstretched left-palm to give his side a merited lead.

In reply, Lescott agonisingly headed Jagielka's deep free-kick across the face of goal and, concerned by the fact that the Hammers defence that had somehow failed to keep a clean sheet in any of its previous 25 league and cup matches, that was enough to give the home fans amongst the crowd of 33,961 the jitters.

Certainly, their fears were well-founded, for Everton were about to embark on a remarkable rampage that would see them score those three goals inside five manic minutes.

On 83 minutes, Lescott stole in front of James Collins to nod home Saha's cross into the back of the net.

And then goal-maker turned goal-taker as the twisting and turning Frenchman collected from Anichebe sent a low, angled 15-yarder in off the sprawling Robert Green's right-hand post.

With an East End evacuation by the stunned Hammers fans now in full flow, that man Saha then lashed home his second goal, after Cahill intercepted Julien Faubert's woeful pass, before inviting his team-mate to fire a low 25-yarder beyond the home keeper and seal an improbable win for Moyes' men.
