Day 1 India vs England 2nd Test Full Highlights Video

Gautam Gambhir hit an unbeaten century and was ably supported by Rahul Dravid as India dominated day one of the second Test against England in Mohali.

Despite losing the toss, England struck early when Stuart Broad removed Virender Sehwag in the second over.

But Gambhir, dropped on 70, and Dravid (65no) batted watchfully to steady the innings with a 173-run partnership.

As England toiled, Gambhir (106no) made his fourth Test ton before bad light curtailed play with India on 179-1.

Australia in India, 2008, India vs Australia,
2nd Test, Day 3(three) Highlights video played at Punjab C.A. Stadium, Mohali, October 17-21, 2008

Fantastic Day for India, barring the second session of course. They started the day by picking up three wickets in the first session. Then Australia came back well in the afternoon but could not stop India from bowling them out with the lead still over 200. They then decided to bat on and why not. Gambhir and Sehwag have just batted beautifully to ensure that the Indians not only score runs but score them quickly. They will look to continue in the same fashion tomorrow and the declaration will be the biggest question on everybody’s mind.

Australia in India, 2008, India vs Australia,
2nd Test, Day 1 (one) Highlights video played at Punjab C.A. Stadium, Mohali, October 17-21, 2008

What an outstanding day of cricket it has been. Mohali couldn't have witnessed anything better with such major milestones being achieved. Sachin Tendulkar crossed Lara to become the highest run getter in Test cricket history and also became the first one to clock 12,000 Test runs. His good old mate Saurav Ganguly too achieved a landmark of reaching 7000 Test runs and became the 4th highest run getter in Tests for his country. Coming back to the game, this has been a superb day full of action.

The bat dominated the ball for the major part of the day today and it had to be, it was a good batting track and the Indian batsmen batted well to peg back the opponents. But then, Australia fought back hard to dismiss the set batsmen and it was game on again. That is when the legendary pair stepped into the middle and rose to the ocassion, superb hundred plus partnership brought back India into the contest again. However, the record smasher was out just at the brink of stumps but Saurav is still there in the middle. The Indians would want to bat as long as they possibly can to give themselves a big total to bowl with. Day 2 should bring a lot of intriguing cricket.

Man of the match Zaheer Khan: "Our morale is high going into the second Test because to get a draw was a tremendous achievement."

Australia captain Ricky Ponting: "It ended up being a pretty good strip. It was a good start. It's always difficult for us coming here and starting a Test series. There's room for some improvement."

Australia in India, 2008, India vs Australia, 1st Test, Day 3 (three) Highlights Video M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, October 9-13, 2008

The Indians have once again managed to neutralize the proceedings of the day. While the first two sessions were won comprehensively by Australia, the Indians fought back bravely in the last session with Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer batting with a lot of grit. Harbhajan and Zaheer got stuck into them like thorns. It was a healthy 80-run partnership, after Australia had got all the main Indian batsmen back fairly cheaply. With just a couple more wickets in hand, India will want to be as close to Australia as possible.

LG ICC Cricket Awards 2008 Ceremony Video

As part of the ICC's celebration of the game's heroes and role models, the ICC holds an Annual Awards ceremony to celebrate the major individual and team achievements from the past twelve months of world cricket.

The LG ICC Awards 2008 features nine prestigious awards recognising some of the biggest names in world cricket.

The LG ICC Awards ceremony is now in its fifth year and this year it was held in Dubai on 10 September. Previous ceremonies were held in London (2004), Sydney (2005), Mumbai (2006) and Johannesburg (2007).

The event was due to be staged in Lahore ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy but with that tournament being postponed, it will now go ahead in Dubai, where the ICC has its headquarters.

This year’s LG ICC Awards includes eight individual prizes, including a new one for the Twenty20 International Performance of the Year. The winners of seven of these individual awards will be voted upon by a 25-person panel from around the world, made up of renowned former players, respected members of the media, and an elite umpire and elite match referee.

Meanwhile, the nominations for the Women’s Cricketer of the Year Award were decided after each of the world’s top 10 teams was given the opportunity to nominate two players. This award will be voted on by a separate 16-person voting academy featuring former players and other experts on the women’s game.

Based on the 12 months between 9 August 2007 and 12 August 2008, the LG ICC Awards 2008 - presented in association with FICA - will take into account performances by players and officials in a remarkable period for the game. That period includes the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 2007 in South Africa.

Holding their ICC cricketing trophies (from left) Indian player Yuvraj Singh, Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardena, umpire Simon Taufel from Australia, Charlotte Edwards from England, Dale Steyn from South Africa, Ajantha Mendis from Sri Lanka, and with Ricky Ponting of Australia (extreme right), following the LG ICC Awards 2008 ceremony in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on September 10, 2008.

South Africa in England, 2008, NatWest Series
England vs South Africa, 3rd ODI; Highlights
The Oval, London, August 29, 2008

Another clinical performance by the Englishmen. They lost the toss today and had to bat. The openers gave them a great start and they finished brilliantly despite a bit of a wobble in the middle overs. Flintoff played a fine knock and was well supported by Samit Patel who rounded off his cameo with a five wicket haul. The two remaining games are now dead but South Africa will like to come up with something good to end the tour.
England win by 126 runs and win the Natwest series 3-0 with 2 games to spare
Samit Patel is the Man of the Match for his all round performance. He scored 31 runs and picked up 5 for 41 to become the first England spinner in 7 years to take a five wicket haul in ODIs.

Idea Cup, 2008; Sri Lanka vs India,
5th ODI Highlights; R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, August 29, 2008

This has been an amazing tour which has witnessed some high quality cricket. After being trampled in the Test series, the Indians came back strongly with their young brigade putting up a brilliant show. It was the Mendis and Murali show in the Tests and surprisingly enough, they failed to perform in the one-dayers. Young India played them a lot better and hence the positive result. Mahendra Singh Dhoni led his side from the front with a few good knocks, Suresh Raina glittered with the bat and young Kohli showed a lot of promise about him as well. Zaheer Khan is back to his best too by performing like a real spearhead for his side. For the Sri Lankans, it was Kulasekara, Thushara, Mendis and the skipper himself who performed very well. Despite these efforts, it was India who walked away with the Idea Cup.

Result Sri Lanka won by 112 runs (D/L method)
Nuwan Kulasekara is the Man of the Match for his outstanding spell of 4 for 40 from 9 overs.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the Man of the series for his consistent run with the bat. He stacked up a brilliant 193 runs from the 5 games.

This was all England barring the toss and England will feel it was a good toss to lose. Broad produced an amazing spell to demolish South Africa completely. Then the two openers came out and finished the job without any hiccups whatsoever. A score of 83 was never going to be any problem without early wickets and that didn't happen for South Africa.
Stuart Broad is the Man of the Match for his career best figures of 5/23 in 10 overs during which he ripped through the South African top order and gave England an unassailable advantage.

India Vs Sri Lanka 4th ODI Highlights Video

Idea Cup, 2008, Sri Lanka vs India,
4th ODI, Highlights
R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, August 26, 2008

What a clinical performance by the Indians, they would be a satisfied lot after what they all went through during the lost Test series and the horrendous first ODI. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has led his side to yet another win and he has once again done that with a resounding example. His team got off to a good start and he took up the charge alongwith Raina to ensure that their team got to a par total. It was always going to be one of those challenging run chases where Sri Lanka needed a good start. Warnapura was patchy but the dangerous Jayasuriya was firing from the other end. Wickets kept tumbling at crucial periods and the spinners were responsible for all that. The pitch assisted them and even a part-timer like Yuvraj dictated terms to the genuine batsmen. Sri Lanka never looked like winning and the Indians were the clear favourites.

Result: India win by 46 runs and alongwith it, they win the Idea Cup 3-1 with 1 game to spare.
Suresh Raina is the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 76 which played a crucial part in the 4th wicket stand with Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Chaminda Vaas receives a special award. He joined the elite club of 400 wickets in this match.

India Vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI Highlights Video

Idea Cup, 2008; Sri Lanka vs India, 3rd ODI; highlights; R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, August 24, 2008

Splendid victory for the Indians after they piled up a good fighting total on the board. The Sri Lankans never helped themselves by losing early wickets and were once again under a threat of being skittled out under 100. But the age old problem of the Indians came to the surface again as they allowed Thushara and skipper Jayawardene to settle in and pile on a fabulous partnership late in the innings. Once the partnership was broken, it was all over for the Sri Lankans. Mahela went down fighting but one needs to accept that the Lankans never batted well to chase this total down.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the Man of the Match for his fine knock of 76 which enabled India post a challenging total.

India Vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI Highlights Video

Idea Cup, 2008, Sri Lanka vs India, 2nd ODI Highlights, Rangiri International Stadium, Dambulla, August 20, 2008
The Indian bowlers bowled their hearts out but once again the age old Indian problem of not being able to skittle an opposition out came to the surface as the Lankan tail wagged to propel them to 142. The Indian batsmen failed once again and not having a specialist opening bat is going to hurt them badly in this series. The middle order was a bit shaky as well and the Indians need to do something to come out of this mess. However, one good thing is that, today the batters played Murali and Mendis much better. The end result is something that India will gladly take and they will hope that things get only better from here.
Zaheer Khan is the Man of the Match for his stupendous bowling figures of 4 for 21.
Result India won by 3 wickets (with 62 balls remaining)

Idea Cup, 2008;Sri Lanka vs India, 1st ODI
Rangiri International Stadium, Dambulla, August 18, 2008

The new look Indian side didn't really do any better. India won the toss, elected to bat but their batting fell apart big time. The bowlers did well initially but then Kapugedera and Mahela got together in an unbeaten and match winning partnership. It turned out to be a one sided affair.

Ajantha Mendis is the Man of the Match for his bewitching spell of 3 for 21 off nine overs with 4 maidens.

Result Sri Lanka won by 8 wickets (with 91 balls remaining)
