ESPN, originally an acronym for Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, is an American cable television network dedicated to broadcasting and producing sports-related programming 24 hours a day.ESPN considers itself "The Worldwide Leader in Sports", a slogan that appears on nearly all company media but whose origin is unknown.


It was founded by Scott Rasmussen and his father Bill Rasmussen and launched on September 7, 1979, under the direction of Chet Simmons, who was the network's first President and CEO (and later became the United States Football League's first commissioner). Getty Oil Company provided the funding to begin the new venture.

Most programming on ESPN and its affiliated networks is composed of live or tape-delayed sporting events and sports-related news programming (such as 'SportsCenter') with the remainder filled by sports-related talk shows (such as 'Around the Horn', 'Jim Rome is Burning','Outside The Lines', and 'PTI') and sports-related documentaries.

The Mutua Madrileña Masters Madrid is an annual tennis tournament for male professional players. The event is held annually in Madrid, Spain, and is played on indoor hardcourts (from 2003 in the Madrid Arena). The event is part of the ATP Masters Series on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour.

The event moved to Madrid in 2002. Prior to that, the event was held in Stuttgart, Germany. The Stuttgart indoor tournament became a Masters Series event in 1996. Previously, the eighth event of the annual Master Series was in Essen, Germany, in 1995, and in Stockholm, Sweden, from 1990-1994. From 2009 the tournament will be moved to a new stadium and be played on clay courts as part of the ATP's new Masters 1000 series.

What an outstanding day of cricket it has been. Mohali couldn't have witnessed anything better with such major milestones being achieved. Sachin Tendulkar crossed Lara to become the highest run getter in Test cricket history and also became the first one to clock 12,000 Test runs. His good old mate Saurav Ganguly too achieved a landmark of reaching 7000 Test runs and became the 4th highest run getter in Tests for his country. Coming back to the game, this has been a superb day full of action.

The bat dominated the ball for the major part of the day today and it had to be, it was a good batting track and the Indian batsmen batted well to peg back the opponents. But then, Australia fought back hard to dismiss the set batsmen and it was game on again. That is when the legendary pair stepped into the middle and rose to the ocassion, superb hundred plus partnership brought back India into the contest again. However, the record smasher was out just at the brink of stumps but Saurav is still there in the middle. The Indians would want to bat as long as they possibly can to give themselves a big total to bowl with. Day 2 should bring a lot of intriguing cricket.
